If you’re considering a career in the beauty industry, then you should take the opportunity to beef up on some basic classes before you have to pay for them.
That’s right, it turns out that those classes that everyone spent so much time trying to cut, are actually really helpful when it comes to professional development.
If you or someone you know is still in high school and is considering a future in the beauty and wellness industry, read on to find out which courses will come in handy after graduation!
You may be surprised to know that the classes that will prepare you the most are the ones that you least expect.
These include classes like English literature, writing and composition, technical writing, storytelling, speech, debate, mock trial, poetry etc… What do these seemingly unrelated courses have to do with one another?
Communication and messaging.
The beauty industry is people, meeting them, touching them, and most importantly talking to them.
Having the skills to facilitate conversations and develop a partnership with them is the key to your success.
Arts and Extracurriculars
It’s probably a no-brainer that being a stylist requires at least a little bit of creativity. Classes like painting, drawing, acting, pottery, dance, etc are perfect because they teach you about the creative process and you learn to apply technical skills over a period of time until you reach the desired level of mastery.
Lab Sciences and Math:
No one wants to hear that they actually should have taken that basic chemistry class after all, but it turns out that you really should have.
Courses like biology, chemistry, physics, algebra and, geometry prepare you for the lab science side of cosmetology.
A cosmetology education is comprised of more than basic styling techniques and an eye for color. These programs fuse principles of chemistry and anatomy, psychology, business, and economics in the span of only 11 months or so. They are rigorous and challenging, but earning a cosmetology or esthetician license is rewarding!
