Have you ever wanted to become a cosmetologist in Arizona? If you love doing hair, nails, skincare, or makeup, a future in cosmetology may be for you. The Studio Academy of Beauty has a cosmetology program in three different locations in Arizona. To become a licensed cosmetologist in Arizona, you can expect to follow these simple steps.

1. Choose a School

Choosing a school can be exciting! If you want to stay nearby, make sure to find a school close to home. Some schools, like The Studio Academy of Beauty, have more than one location. This makes it easy to find a school close to you! You can learn more about our three different locations in Chandler, Phoenix, and Tolleson.

When looking for a school, get to know the instructors, the culture, and the programs offered. A great first step is to schedule a tour. During that tour, you can ask:

  • Do you offer any scholarships?
  • What is part of the curriculum?
  • How much time will I spend in the classroom?
  • What kind of products will I use at this school?
  • When are your start dates?
  • Why do students like this location?
  • How do you help students find a career after their time at school?

You can also find out what people are saying about the school’s students. You’ll know it’s the right campus when you get excited to start your first day! Call us today to schedule a tour.

2. Apply for Your Dream School

After you’ve had your campus tour and decided which school is the school for you, the next step is to apply to the program. You’ll need to provide proof of a verifiable high school diploma or GED. You can then choose your start date and complete the enrollment process.

When looking at start dates, make sure to find a time that best fits your schedule. The Studio Academy of Beauty is unique, because our classes start on a month to month basis! We offer both day and evening classes. This can be accommodating if you are working or have children, you have the option to take evening classes.

An admissions representative is available to help you complete the enrollment process. You can expect to pay a registration fee, and apply for financial aid.* Your admissions representative can walk you through the different types of financial assistance. You can also fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) online.

*Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

3. Have Fun at School!

Wondering what a typical day at beauty school is like? Each day you can expect to learn material from textbooks and practical experiences. You often get a chance to perfect your skills on both mannequins and real life clients.

We encourage our students to participate in experiences such as fashion shows and charity events. We host a hair show twice a year, which allows you to showcase your most creative work. You can also participate in photoshoots, career fairs, and monthly parties! We strive to create fun events for our students to give them real life experience.

You can expect to work with well known brands such as Redken, CHI, and Design Essentials.

4. Take the Steps To Get Your License

Before you can get your state license, you must sit for the state board exam. This includes a written and practical test. Each state has different laws for cosmetology. It’s important to learn what the requirements are before you dive into your career.

You can expect the exam to cover a variety of knowledge taught in our cosmetology program. As part of our curriculum, you can learn:

  • Hair coloring
  • Hairstyling
  • Hair cutting
  • Perms
  • Blow outs
  • Pin curls
  • Pedicures
  • Manicures
  • And more!

Cosmetologists have the advantage of learning a variety of styling techniques and treatments for hair, skin, and nails. If you’re mainly interested in skincare, we recommend checking out our esthetics program, too!

5. Choose a Career Path

Once you are ready to start working, your options are limitless! Two great options are working at a salon or owning your own business. It could be fun opening up your own salon and accepting new clients. For a simpler route, you could rent out a booth at a salon that is owned by someone else.

Another great option is styling hair for special events and magazines. Weddings, prom, and quinceaneras are good examples of events people pay to get their hair professionally styled.

Getting into the wedding industry can be a gateway for new clients. You could be the stylist for bridal magazines, travel, and work with models. You could partner with wedding photographers, makeup artists, florists, and wedding gown companies. Your future is up to you!
